Commissioned by Mitsubishi Estate and Osaka Art & Design for the Osaka Expo, Forest of Delight was a major temporary installation that took over Umekita Plaza during the summer of 2025. Sitting directly at the entrance to Osaka Station - a monumental gateway used by over 2.5 million people every single day - the project was designed to be in dialogue with the grand scale of the plaza, layering the surrounding architecture with a new, richly polychromatic, immersive palette.

The installation was composed of a series of proud, characterful columns reaching a height of four metres. Conceived as a contemporary labyrinth of abstracted ruins suffused with references to the colours of a blooming natural environment, the structures reconfigured the plaza into a magnetic and accessible wonderland. The installation functioned as a chromatic feast, adding a potent layer of delight and spatial sensuality to the daily journey of passers-by.

By injecting a tactile, spatial and chromatic sense of wonder into the heart of this premier commercial district, Forest of Delight became a heavily photographed, celebrated focal point for the summer season. The project stands as a testament to how large-scale, meaningfully decorative art can beautifully complement high-profile commercial developments, transforming a major space of transition into an evocative, inclusive, and spellbinding civic experience.
